If you’ve watched television at any point during the last forty years or so, you’ll know Ronnie Le Drew.
Without a doubt one of the most skilful marionettists in Britain today, his precision and dexterity are the outcome of a lifetime in puppetry. He’s best known for his years as Zippy in Thames TV’s Rainbow, but he was also the man behind the loveable character Sweep from The Sooty Show, and has worked the iconic marionette Muffin the Mule.
In cinema he has worked on films such as Labyrinth, Little Shop of Horrors, The Muppet Christmas Carol and his latest feature The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. This one hour illustrated talk will feature clips of his career highlights, and possibly even a puppet or two.
Film screening: 3.30pm
Ronnie’s talk will be followed by a screening of Labyrinth, a fantastic fantasy from the godfather of modern puppetry Jim Henson. When her baby brother is stolen by the fantastical Goblin King, and hidden in his castle in the middle of a treacherous labyrinth populated with the weird and the wonderful, young Sarah must mount a rescue operation.
